My fingerprints biometrics comes up with error notification every time

My fingerprint scanner produces an error notification every timeI try to add my fingerprint but facial recognition works perfectly

Has it had a new screen fitted? Has it been dropped? Also go into settings and see if you can remove any saved ones and input them again. Might need a new fingerprint reader if all else fails or it might just need taken to bits and the sensor connection reseated.
