Usually if I close the lid and wait about 5 min....when I open it up...the screen will come back on......but after a few minutes back to the same thing. been trying different things...still no luck

What do you see when you press a flashlight against the display? Do you see the faint image of your desktop and its icons?

by

Nothing.....but I can still see the webpages on the Touch Bar.....it just happened....closed the lid.....waited a couple of minutes...open the lid and back and its back on

by

Well, now you've confused me! So the issue is the TouchBar not the main display?

Let's start again as we have incomplete and confusing symptoms. Which display is going black? The main big one or the Touch Bar?

When you put the system to sleep by closing the lid does the keyboard light up as you lift the lid? What happened when you press on the keys or touchpad does the system react?

This is a known issue with the 13" 2016 models; Apple even has a quality program that covers it.

https://support.apple.com/13-inch-macboo...

Although it doesn't cover the 15" models, I've seen the same thing happening on a number of them.

Short version, you need a new display; part number 661-06375 for Space Gray, 661-06376 for Silver. If your display has no signs of physical damage it'll cost you $530; with damage it's $620. If you call Apple and play the right song for them, they MAY give you a CS code to get the screen replaced for free. They've been known to do stuff like that ("surprise and delight"). Good luck.

@steve_g - If you noted the test I recommended "What do you see when you press a flashlight against the display? Do you see the faint image of your desktop and its icons?"

Macmod did not clarify what the problem is so its best not to throwout conjecture!

by

@danj It's not conjecture.

@steve_g - You are assuming this is a FlexGate issue, but with no clear data you can't be sure! The OP could have an issue with the TouchBar the way it is written. If we had gotten clarity then I could see this as a possibility.

Besides the FlexGate repair program has ended for the 2016 systems! Vintage and obsolete products listing

Sound to Me like a Logic Board and Backlight problem,
I can't seem to find the schematics for the Logic board though,
I've found some schematics
