Can I replace the HDD with an SSD for the Dell Inspiron 17R-N7110?

I've had this laptop for longer than I can remember. I found it and got it fully factory new. The specs are not bad (i7 and 8gbs RAM).

However, my fans are always going crazy and speed is consistently slow, even with a clean Windows install. I checked Task Manager and found that the HDD (Disk) is always at near 100% whenever I do anything. The only times where the PC is fine is when a task is being run without changing it's state. (ie staying in one webpage, not forking any new processes.) However, if I start anything or change state, then the throttle comes in.

I suspect that the HDD is bottle-necking the performance of the computer and would like to know if there is a way of improving the hardware. I want to know if we can avoid the bottleneck or if its not worth the time/effort.

Strange you should ask,. It happens that what you need to do that is here. Happy upgrading. (I'd do a virus scan if the system is constantly working, and I'd do a teardown and clean everything if it's struggling to cool itself, fans heatsinks, etc. After "forever" you might also want to reapply thermal paste as appropriate.) I expect you will enjoy a very noticeable improvement, In my humble opinion it's definitely worth doing. I would also take a look at task manager and see what processes are responsible for all that activity, but me, I'm paranoid.

Thank you! I'm definitely gonna go ahead and disassemble it.

As a side note, I also wanted to express my appreciation for your kindness. Many of these types of forums quickly get toxic/condescending. I appreciate your knowledgeable yet compassionate comment.

Thank you from all of us! It's nice to get feedback, I've done this on a number of old devices and on my own as well, it's a good performance boost.
