Why is my xbox not reading my hard drive?

I plug my hard drive into my Xbox 360, and nothing comes up. When I plug my hard drive into my computer via transfer cable (OEM not 3rd party cable) the hard drive is recognized. Also I made a copy of the files on the hard drive and saved them on my computer. The one weird thing I encountered though was that when this one file was trying to be copied over the hard drive would make this ticking noise. Every file copied fine except the one. Any idea what I should do to get the data off the hard drive in order to save all of my game saves/data on it?

Have you checked if it is compatible with an Xbox 360?

Or try cleaning the port with some kind of brush. (E.G: Toothbrush)
