Why wont my gaming external drive work?

My ps4 pro is about 2 years old and i've been having problems with my gaming drive after the 1st year. every time i would connect my gaming drive i would get a repair notification on my ps4 pro and after i would repair the gaming drive, it i would continue getting the same notification again. I had tried formatting as FAT32 and exFAT but both would still fail and ask to repair.
