Only top speaker works

Hello, I have got an iPhone 8 that has a loudspeaker (at the bottom) that doesn't produce any sound. Only the top speaker makes sound. I replaced the loudspeaker with another loudspeaker bought online; this didn't fix the issue. I already restored the iPhone, factory reset, etc. I have attempted to change the left/right channel audio balance via Accessibility settings, I have tried basically every software solution out there. Despite this, the bottom speaker doesn't work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So you have physically opened the phone up, and replaced the speakers with a different set of speakers?

by

@jmehnert

Yes I opened the phone up and I have only replaced the bottom speaker. This is the place I bought it from.

This is the correct part right?

Do you have the repair guide that you used?

by

@jmehnert I used a youtube video, I can't remember which one. Why is this relevant?

by

@mintaka It helps me to understand the process that you took for the replacement for this part, and it helps me to backtrack any steps that may have been missed. Do you think you can find it in your viewing history?

It is not the speaker you need to replace. You will need to replace the charge port assembly as it has the audio lines that go to the speaker. This is the first part to replace when the bottom speaker is not working.

Thank you, so should I purchase this part?

Then, replace that flex cable?

by

@mintaka Yes. That is the correct part.

@imicrosoldering cool, should I accept this answer here and then test it when the new part is replaced, once tested then decline if it didn't work? Also, how did you know what to do with this speaker problem? I scoured the internet looking for any website I could find that fixes this exact problem, and all I could find was "restore the iPhone", "take it to a genius bar", etc. Is there like a pdf or something that outlines ways to fix any part of an iPhone?

by

@mintaka You can accept the answer when the audio is working. I have been working on iPhones for over 5 years and since you have ruled out software and speaker it is the only part left. I have never encounter a faulty speaker on the iPhone 8 it always ends up being the charge port assembly.

The new charging flex works! Thanks for the idea. No more broken speaker :)
