The LCDs for some of the newer models can be pretty pricey. I regularly see LCDs for the original MacBook A1181 for $125 or less for the whole upper clam shell, LCD, wires, inverter and hinges included. I've purchased a few like that for $50. What are the last 3 characters of your serial number, so we can determine your exact machine and better address your question(s)?

Sarah,

A screen replacement won't be easy, though it's totally possible! You haven't told us what MacBook you have, so prices for the screen (and CD drive) can range fairly greatly...expect to easily pay over $200 (maybe over $300) for the parts to do this. Not cheap, but much cheaper then a new MacBook or having a shop do it for you!

If you decide to go through a home repair, start here, at our MacBook page. From that page simply navigate to your MacBook and follow the guide that you need! Hope this helps out and let us know if you have more questions.
