MBP A1989 & A2338 Won't turn of after screen replacement

Hi All.

I've replaced the screen on a Macbook Pro A1989 and A2338 today and neither will turn on now.

I followed the iFixit guides to a tee, including turning off auto-boot.

Both screens are genuine and neither machine has any damaged, bent or broken cables or connectors.

Does anyone know how to remedy this?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Just so we are talking about the correct systems

∙ A1989 - 13" 2018/19 - Intel Four Thunderbolt ports

∙ A2338 - 13" 2020 - M1 Two Thunderbolt ports

Did you buy new screens or recycled?

by

@danj Yep and yep

Well, I can't explain why the systems won't turn on at all, but I can tell you, you have a second issue new screens need to be calibrated for True Tone services to be set, which only Apple directly or a AASP can perform. A recycled display will have been calibrated and will work straight up. Your FaceTime Camera won't work and some screens may not work at all as well (M series systems)

So while we can dig though the process of getting the systems working you still have a second hurdle to over come! You can give Apple a BIG THANK YOU for that one! Support the Right to Repair!

Well that sucks.

Are we able to get the process of getting the systems working as a first step?

by

@oscart - You'll need to focus on the intel system and you'll need to put the original display back on. Once you are there we can start. It would be helpful to know what is the reason the display needed to be replaced and what was (is) the state of the system was it powering up at the start and if it was it should be now.

by

@danj I only have the M1 system as the moment as the customer picked up the intel one. I've got the old display back on, which was cracked.

It was powering up when the customer first brought it in, but that was 6 weeks ago as we had to wait for parts. The machine did not turn on when the customer brought it back. I assumed it had a flat battery after not being used all that time.

@oscart - Sorry guy ;-{ I haven't worked on the newer M series systems so I can't offer much help. Can you get it powered up as a dead battery won't help you.
