I can make calls and rcv text, but can't rcv calls -RESOLVED

My phone was working fine until a week or so ago. Now I can't receive calls. I can make calls, I can make and rcv text. When I call it, I get sent directly to voicemail. When I called TS they had me reconfigure the APN settings, no joy. They reset VM, then message was VM wasn't setup. Then they disabled VM, now I get a fast busy. If I put the SIM into my wife's phone, it works fine. It is running EMUI 8 and I can't figure out how to get it to a higher Android version. I did a factory reset, same issue. So, it can't be in airplane mode, there can't be any blocks, it isn't in DND = What is the problem? It is on the ATT network (GSMA).

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi @ruggb

Was there a firmware update just before the problem occurred?

Perhaps that has caused the problem and factory resetting it won't fix it as it will reinstall the same version.

Here's a link that shows how to roll back a firmware update if you think that this may be the cause.

Just a thought.

It has not updated and won't. If I could figure out how to access my bootloader I might be able to change the f/w. That is the only thing left that might be the problem. Why would the phone not be accessible by the provider for voice only - obviously, that is why it went directly to VM.

@ruggb

Try using the SIM from your wife's phone in your phone and see if the phone also behaves the same way.

Most likely if it does then the phone is "telling" the ISP that it is in use inasmuch as it could have a permanent redirect or dnd option.

Since you have reset the phone to factory (did you try it in default mode or just factory reset and then restore with the backup without trying?) it's looking like a hardware issue unless the stored firmware (used for reset and not operating) is corrupted also.

There is always this option to consider perhaps

thanks Jayeff - I found the problem TS couldn't. 4G LTE was turned on and I think TS said it was suppose to be. But I have no idea why that would take my voice phone off line.

@ruggb

Perhaps your service provider uses VoLTE (Voice over LTE) for voice calls now.

Hi @stressmaster,

The problem was resolved by the OP enabling (disabling?) the 4G LTE option.

Not sure as the OP stated in a comment:

"... - I found the problem TS couldn't. 4G LTE was turned on and I think TS said it was suppose to be. But I have no idea why that would take my voice phone off line."

Also DND setting had been checked.

Cheers
