Why is my Sportage still overheating?

I have a 2012 Sportage that has a new radiator with coolant full. It is still overheating when I drive over 55. What am I missing. Water pump was replaced twice, first time bad covid era replacement part. The fan will run but sometimes I check it and think it should be running and is not.

@rpmdak64 okay the fan thing could be a red herring or it could be what is not working rig and is the cause. I would start with that. Check the temperature switch, coolant sensor and the fan relay. You could also run the fan on a circuit that will always keep it running to avoid the over-heating for now. Your engine temperature sensor is responsible for relaying your engine temp to the ECU.  Once the temp gets hot, the ECU commands the radiator fan to come on.A bad temp sensor will cause the ECU not “knowing “ what the temperature is and wont turn the fan on. Check the wiring to the switch etc .as well. Corrosion or a bad connection can give you intermittent failure. We would need to know the engine size and Sportage model to possibly help you find the components in question as well as a wiring diagram. It might also help if you post some good pictures of the engine, fan etc. and post those with your QUESTION. It might help us to find the sensors etc. Adding images to an existing question

Hi @rpmdak64 ,

Has the engine coolant thermostat been checked that it is opening when it should, you didn't say?

If it hasn’t been checked, here’s the section from the 2012 Sportage service repair manual showing the repair and test procedure and also a better view of its location that may help
