Surface type cover not powering on and connecting to the computer

So…I currently use a surface pro 7+ for everyday and all of a sudden my keyboard stopped working (For context here’s a few things that are normal):

  • Surface turns on
  • Surface reaches login screen
  • Surface logs in and is on home screen
  • Surface is in UEFI bios
  • Surface is in Advanced startup options.

In none of these scenarios does the keyboard work. No lights are on. No signs of life. However after a reset of windows it does work but then small things do trigger it to stop working again.

I have tried literally everything from cleaning the contacts to even (repeatedly) turn on and off the type cover port in the UEFI bios with absolutely 0 luck at all.

Pls help as this is a machine used on an everyday basis.

Thanks.

Update (10/04/23)

So, after going back and forth with Microsoft, the only solution they had was to send me a new keyboard, which now works fine.

Plugin the external keyboard to check whether the fault is in the keyboard or something else. As you said after windows reset it works, which means there might be some software glitch. Try to update or restore the updated driver for the keyboard. Sometimes keyboard gets turned off from bios too. You should also check from there.

Unfortunately I did try all of those and none of it worked. It happens at random and the only real way to fix it is to reset the whole device

@np_f1_2021 It might possible there is some virus that stops or turn it off. It happened to me a long time before. After reset doesn't open any drive. First Install and scan the whole PC with a good Antivirus.

Funny thing is it happens when the following occurs (so far):

A monitor is connected (my personal one is a Dell S2722QC type c monitor)

My specific wireless keyboard (Mx keys mini for Mac because I also use a Mac and bought the keyboard without windows pc in mind lol) is connected

And probably more to come

And then it never returns until the pc is reset
