If its the same 2 red lights I use to have, it is overheating. Buying the extra fan hookup I hear can make it worse. I found a video on youtube on how to take apart the xbox. Then I cleaned it out, and vaccummed it out. There was a lot of dust. No more 2 red lights after that. If it is newer or under warranty, I wouldnt suggest this, otherwise, left unfixed can cause it to die.

i have this problem too, ive taken it apart like 8 times and done all the nesscary jobs, new heat sinks, reflowed , cleaned, hoovered, changed the fans, loosened screws, tighened screws, refixed x clamps, unfixed x clamps, changed washers several times, changed dvd drives, checked the motherboard for any scratches over any connections with a magnifieing glass and not been sucessful, stil get the 4 lights on power up, then the 2 red. changed power packs and av cable. now, i never got any picture on my screen so i cant see an error message, i do wonder if this could be the problem for all of it, so i am now going to pull it all apart again and get well in there with the av cable, literally pull it off the motherboard completetly and maybe re attach it some how. but if im honest i think once you got this 2 red lights and you have done the fixes then it is knackered. the GPU has died. but although it is being a stubburn bugger i wont be beaten just yet.

Update

oh i forgot to mention when i start it up without the av cable plugged in, it is ok, soon as the av cable goes in then all ##@! brakes loose, so either av cable connections or GPU.

ok right, school boy error i have made.power packs i have are both wrong, 12v 12.5- 5v 1a are not gona do the xbox i have so thats one thing i need to sort. ridicoulous how many different styles there are for each xbox. and the reason no picture was because i wasnt using a scart lead, just put 3 wires in tv, you must use the scart and plug it all in before switching on xbox.now have the error message.
