Kobo Touch Charging Port Loose and Does Not Work

My old Kobo Touch’s charging port has come loose. If you shake it you can hear and see it move around. Is there any way to fix it?

Hi ,

Here’s a teardown video which shows how to open the tablet that will help.

Opening the tablet will allow access to the charge port connector which is soldered onto the motherboard.

You will need smd (surface mount device) soldering skills and tools to effect the repair. There are videos on YouTube that show how to solder smd type USB connectors.

If doing this yourself seems too daunting, contact a reputable, professional electronics repair or mobile phone repair service and ask for a quote.

Excellent! Thank you! I eventually want to get into learning how to solder but I'll have to see which is more cost effective first!

@Rebecca Suen

One off repairs can cost more if you don't have the right tools and skills already.

By the time you purchase the tools you need and then get some practice on old non working boards etc to get some proficiency (you don't want to start cold on a working device and possibly ruin it in the process) it will come close to what is being charged by a professional.

If you're considering doing more repairs of this nature then absolutely learn how to do it yourself.

Cheers
