Wet charging cable, plugged in, blow out.

Hi,

Im hoping someone is able to help me. My son was attempting to charge his laptop the other day and it turns out the end of the charging cable was wet, he didn’t notice, plugged it in, and switched it on. He said something blew, there was a spark from the charging port, and now it wont turn on. Is it ruined? And if not is it going to be very expensive to fix? Please help, i cant afford to replace it and he needs it for school.

Many thank,

Andy

Andrew Robertson that is going to be a tough one to answer. It could be as bad as straight forward as the charging port to as bad a bad fuse on the motherboard. The only way to really determine by what is going on with your son’s Surface Pro is be taking a good look at the board etc. For that you will have to start disassembling it at least partially. Use these guides Microsoft Surface Pro for that. One you get to where you can see the motherboard, take some good pictures and post those with your QUESTION (you have to edit the QUESTION for that). https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Adding+imag...
