Problems with RAM Memory

Hi all,

I got a ASRock B450M Pro4 motherboard with 16GB of ram. I am using AMD Ryzen 5 2600X Processor. Also I got 16GB (2x8) of RAM memory. Model of the RAM: HyperX Predator HX430C15PB3K2

I checked the site of ASRock and the memory should work with this motherboard. Yes it is, but in Windows it is showing 16GB and only 8GB usable. I tried setting the MHz to 3000 but still the same issue. The BIOS is at the latest version.

If I only use one slot of RAM and set it to 3000MHz than it will show 3000 in the main screen of the BIOS. So with one slot it will save correctly.

However if I try to set it to 3000 with 2 RAMS, it will not ‘save’ the settings at the Main screen in the BIOS shows still 2400. What could be the problem?

Hi,

Has it worked OK before or is this a new build?

Does it do this regardless of which ram module is in which slot e.g. does the 2400MHz stay with the slot or move with the module when you try it at 3000MHz?

Try running this free memory test program to make sure that both modules are OK.

Also p.22 of the user manual shows that the memory for a Pinnacle Ridge CPU (your CPU) is max 2933MHz but maybe 3000MHz is close enough

One of the simple things to remember is most modern-day MB’s are dual channels. I am not trying second guess your ability or previous experience, it's the little things that can stump us at times. Usually slot 1 and 3, and or 2 and 4 are together. The order depends on the orientation from the CPU. Running only 1 stick of ram is not recommended as the controller is basically tripping over itself looking for the other ram channel. As another person noted I believe the speed of the ram is close to the limit for the MB. I have had similar issues and have had to change speeds slower not over clocking the ram or letting it run at its native speed. Hope this helps.

I am using slot 2 and 4 according to the user manual. Also when I try to save it to 2666MHz, it won't save the settings. It automatically sets it back to 2400MHz.
