In order to find the correct screen, we need a model number first and foremost. While it can be done, there’s a not so great caveat with the Stream series - parts cost vs used unit resale. The HP Stream is infamous for being easily totaled out due to the low purchase price new, which makes repair hard to justify since used ones are so cheap in comparison.

The best way to do it is to get a donor with a bad motherboard (power, BIOS password or a corrupted BIOS) to not kill the repair to replacement ratio as it will be really cheap to get one of those. When you put a unknown BIOS password in the mix, that destroys the value if you cannot get the .BIN file HP requires so people dump them for what little they can get. Motherboard issues also tend to do the same thing as the storage is soldered so you’re replacing the whole computer when you swap it on such a low end laptop.

The way to do it is to disconnect the battery - you either remove the palmrest on early models (8.1 with Bing) or bottom cover (Windows 10/11, some late-ish 8.1 systems?). Once that’s done, remove the LCD bezel off of the laptop and the screen is exposed. However, HP has fallen in love with the Command strips for the LCD in some machines, while others use screws so you need to be prepared - best bet is to buy a small refill pack from a major retailer (may need to cut to size) or see if you can have a HP P/N for an adhesive kit (no cutting, but more expensive) - you’re usually better off modifying retail strips.

Once it’s removed, you need to get the new screen installed. If it uses adhesive, DO NOT ADHERE IT UNTIL IT IS KNOWN GOOD. On screw models, the cable goes first and then the screws go in.

Hopefully you can pull this off without getting burned on part cost, but that’s often optimistic with the Stream and Chromebooks.
