Nexus tablet not turning on (boots to google logo)

My nexus tablet (7 gen2) boots up to the google logo, and gets stuck there. Also, it has had a battery replacement, and screen replacement in its life, if that means anything. Nothing i do helps, and i want old vides off it. Pls help

Update:

So its been a bunch of months and i found out my problem, (i completely forgot about this post lol) the white ribbon cable was giving me troubles, not connecting properly due to one single bent pin from poor re-assembly.

Block Image

that being resolved, i royally messed up the orange ribbon cable’s connector at the top of the tablet

Time for some micro-soldering!

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi Cameron,

What have you tried so far? No point in asking us to help if you don't tell us what you have done.

Have you data you want to keep on?

by

ive tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery(thats the personal extent of my tampering with the hardware), and all that i can find from recovery mode, and cant seem to get to the recovery mode menu.

by

Stuck at "recovery mode----- but when I press power button to choose that mode , the screen goes blank

by

Hi @Trish Lambert

Could you please give more deatail. For example why are you attempting "Recovery", what did you do after "the screen goes blank" as in how long did you wait, did you try anything else, etc. ?

In order to help we need details from start to finish. Otherwise we will just be guessing and that probably not be much help for you and others.

O.K. thanks.

So you can try recovering your device by following these sets of instructions.

First try:

  1. Turn tablet off
  2. Press and hold the Volume Down - and Power button at the same time for at least 10 seconds. You’ll see an Android robot and the word “Start” with an arrow around it. ( Be certain that you press the Power button and Volume Down simmultaneously. This is very important and usually takes a little practise to get right.)
  3.   Press the Volume Down - button to move through the options until the screen shows the option to Power Off. Press the Power button to select that option.
  4. Disconnect the power cord and reconnect it within 10 seconds. A battery icon should appear on the screen. Allow your device to charge at least 1 hour before turning it on again.

If that didn’t work:

  1. Turn tablet off
  2. Press and hold the Volume Down - and Power button at the same time for at least 10 seconds. You’ll see an Android robot and the word “Start with an arrow around it.
  3.   Press the Volume Down - button to move through the options until the screen shows the option to “Recovery Mode”. Press the Power button to select that option.
  4. GOOGLE logo will appear with the lock symbol BUT do nothing and wait!
  5. An Android robot will, eventually, appear on its back with a door open with red exclaimation mark and a “No command” message.
  6. While holding down the Power button, press the Volume Up + button.
  7. The page will show “Android Recovery” at the top. Use the volume buttons to scroll to “Reboot system now “ then press the Power button to select it.

Did this work? Don’t worry if it didn’t as there is more you can do. For now I await your results. And yes the buttons are tricky to press correctly. Good luck. I have rescued a few of these.

Sorry for the late reply, i got caught up in some work. i tried solution 2, when a. there was no lock, and b. no anderoid robot appeared. I waited a good 10 mins. Is it possible that it was a hardware issue upon screen repair, as a faulty re assembly?

by

Hi @crimsoncanadian ,

You tried Solution 2 from "OFF" right?

And you are certain that you pressed Power button and Volume Down simmultaneously for at least 10 seconds? This is very important and usually takes a little practise to get right

That is where I goofed up when I first tried this, years ago.

If it was hardware I would not think that you get even the GOOGLE logo.

I just did the battery and screen replacement on ours about 6 weeks ago.

by

I got to the front facing robot normally, but there was no "no command" that showed up after waiting. I held down power and volume +after initially selecting recovery mode and nothing happened. I tried every variation of that that i could think of

@crimsoncanadian

Just noticed some punctuation and other erros in "Answer" so I edited it. Re-read my corrections.

So let's get some clarity:

In the "If that didn’t work:" section did you get to step 2. menu screen with one of -

"Start" , "Restart bootloader", "Recovery mode" (This is the one to press only the Power button for), "Power off"

showing? Were you able to select "Recovery mode" in step 3. ?

Then it will take you to

step 4. With the GOOGLE logo show - here you wait maybe 6 seconds - it can vary.

step 5. The Android robot appears.

How far did you get here? I trust I am explaining this clearly? Just ask for clairificastion if not.

by

in step 3, i selected recovery mode. i saw the google logo, and waited about 10 mins. nothing happened. that is where i am stuck.
