Where to purchase and SSD for iMac Intel 27"

I just got a new iMac model A2115, EMC 3442 27” Intel. It came with a 256GB SSD but I need to upgrade that soon to something more a like 1 or 2 TB SSD. I have replaced HD’s quite a few time in both iMacs and Macbook’s so I am fairly familiar with the process but the issue is I cannot find any information about what aftermarket SSD will work with my machine and where you can buy one. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

I have the 256Gbyte Version and the SSD is soldered to the mainboard.....so how to update that?

by

@ peter Arbeiter it's my understanding that you don't. On the iMac 27 2020 the storage is paired to the logic board and encrypted by the Apple T2 security Chips. The storage is NOT removeable.

by

@oldturkey03 - There are two versions of the system! One with the soldered in SSD 256GB low end model and the removable SSD's on the high end.

The T2 doesn't affect the replacement aspect of the drive only the inability to access the data if the drive is removed from the system a new drive can be mounted.

The process should be the same as the 2019 model iMac Intel 27" Retina 5K Display 2019 Blade SSD Replacement. The OWC Blade SSD should also be compatible Kit with 2 TB SSD

I’ll be frank I haven’t upgraded the 2020 models, but I can’t see a reason why. In reviewing the iMac Intel 27" Retina 5K Display 2020 Logic Board Replacement we can see its the same as the 2019 board just an updated CPU.

Both offer the same 8.0 GT/s NVMe PCIe x4 interface for the blade SSD (PCIe/NVMe)

I have an OWC 3G, Great speeds

by

@beanman56 - This system needs the OWC Aura Pro X2 SSD for the PCIe/NVMe interface.

by

What about the T2 chip? OWC does not list the 2020 iMac as compatible.

by

@enoxseven - no T chip in the Intel iMac's. OWC gave up testing things (not sure why) there is no difference between the 2019 & 2020 models logic boards.
