iPhone looking for service without a sim car installed

I was Gifted with a broken iPhone 3GS, I replaced the screen and the glass and is working. But the phone thinks tere is a sim car installed even when the sim tray isnt even in. It goes for searching to "no service" if I install a sim it does the same. I restored the iPhone and nothing, i even jailbroke it and installed 6.15, nothing. Went down from ios 5.0.1 to iOS 4.1 and nothing. I think is a hardware problem and i had dealt with hardware a lot of times before but nothing like this. Is there a sensor that may be stuck or something?

Hi!

I have a working solution. Downgrade in DFU Mode to 4.1 custom firmware. Then use redsn0w to flash ipad baseband again. Then do all necessary stuff like install ultrasn0w but especially use source repo.bingner.com to install SAM. In SAM u have to go to Utilities then revert lockdown to stock with success message. After this pull cable out of itunes and plug in again. If U see your phone in itunes all is fine and activated. If you get a wrong simcard message you need to select manually the original carrier including simid within SAM. After this do the unplug and plug again to verify correct activation. After this u should have a working 3gs on 4.1

All this comes from upgrading to 5.0 or 5.0.1. with stock fw and ipad baseband installed (06.15.00).

If you are successfull send me an email

regards

Daniel

Hi Danie, great answer. The only correction I've made was to remove your email address. Place your email address on your profile site. Just click on your avatar and it will take you there. Just one of those things we do to cut down on bots searching this site for email addresses to send you spam. Just for your own protection, and you will see that is where we all post ours. Again, great answer and welcome to ifixit.

Might be worth giving this a quick look:

When you take the screen off, take out the sim card tray, just below [towards the bottom of the phone/dock connector] the sim card tray there are 2 copper connectors, these should make contact when there is no sim tray in there and come apart when the tray is inserted as one of the connectors has a bump in it which protrudes into the sim card trays space, if these connectors are apart all the time, the phone will think there is a sim in there.

Hope it helps ;)

I tought of thar but the sistem seems to be working fine, and a working unit dosnt start searching for signal when the tray is on with no sim, also it would be suposses to work if that system would be faulty when i Have a sim card on... Thanks a lot for trying anyways
