TCL Model: 55S405 no back lighting?

Hi,

I am new to repairing TVs. I can do most everything with computers but TVs are new to me and I want to make sure that I know as much as possible before even opening the TV.

Another renter in my building has a TCL Model: 55S405. It has no lighting when turned on. With a flashlight I can see a TCL logo on the screen when turned on.

I understand that this means the backlighting isn't working.

I just want to get as much advice as possible before I make it worse instead of better.

My search show me that the backlighting is inexpensive at around $33 bucks.

This is good.

So, am I right to assume it is the backlighting or should I know anything else before even opening it up?

1. The LED backlight is a common problem im this model of TV. This video should help with replacing the backlight.

2. Before replacing the backlights, make sure the power supply is outputting the right voltage for the backlights.

@pcruns this will only hold true if this TV has audio. So doulbe check this by actually getting your TV to a channel. If that works then it’s most likely your backlight strips. If it is not then it could be your power board, main board or your T-con board. For further diagnostics than that we would need to see your board. Post some good pictures of those with your question. Adding images to an existing question
