No HDMI signal on startup after shutdown

I have an unmodified dell XPS 8700. Late last night the fan went on full speed so I forced a shutdown so I could sleep. This morning the computer won’t start, just giving a no HDMI signal error. After shutting down, removing all power and peripherals for 10 minutes then starting again the computer managed to display a grey screen but couldn’t start. The lights and fans are on but I can’t seem to get any further.
any advice appreciated. The only other suggestions I can find suggest buying new parts which I don’t have time to do so I want a second opinion before buying anything.

Hi,

Try a full power refresh and check if that resolves the problem.

Turn off the PC if on and then disconnect the power from the PC. Open it up and remove the coin cell battery from the motherboard. Remember the orientation of the battery before removal. Usually it is +ve on top, marked on the battery.

Press and hold the PC power on button for a full 30 seconds and then release it.

Reinsert the coin cell battery, reconnect the power to the PC and try to start it.

If it starts, there may be a message about the date and time being incorrect. This is normal as the above procedure has reset the BIOS back to its factory defaults. Once the date and time have been adjusted, the message won't appear the next time the PC is started. Any user defined BIOS settings that have been a.tered by you to suit your particular requirements will need to be changed back also

Thank you very much. This worked but the computer is now extremely slow. It’ll work for now until I get someone to look at it. Thank you
