iPod Touch 6th Generation - Does not charge, yet detects power in.

I’ve recently figured out the magical method to get my iPod to start existing again; it took some power right to the battery terminals (for reference, the pinout seems to be the following: -, Battery Sense, +) to do this, but it’s not stone-dead now.

Now the issue that comes forth is the following; when plugging the iPod in with a known-working power cable and power adaptor, I can not get the iPod to charge. It will only show the “please connect to power” symbol on screen, and nothing more. What could be the issue? Battery sense, or just the board in general?

Was the battery having any problems before this?

Have you tried a different charger?

If it previously charged connecting directly to the battery terminals, I would assume it’s the board, but I just want to verify these things first.

I've tried a different charger already, and the battery wouldn't accept a charge through the Lightning port already... would I be in for a board replacement?

Update: Applying external power to the battery terminals seems to have worked

For reference, the pinout is as follows, from the left side of the iPod: [- T +]

The iPod works now, however it’s slightly picky with cables. I can live with that, so I guess I solved it!

@devzero I would consider a new battery first to see if that's the problem. If it's not, it could just be the lighting connector. I would troubleshoot these fairly easy/inexpensive parts first before jumping to the board replacement.

Alright, perfect; I'll try a new battery when I can get around to it.
