Is it possible to turn this device into a portable drive?

Hello all I have a question, I have a couple of these devices in different capacities (along with the WD My Book) and what I am wanting to know is if it is possible to take the drive out of the inside and put it into another enclosure and make it a portable drive where it does need a power supply?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Yes, it is possible to put this drive in another enclosure (follow this guide). Before you get an external enclosure, make sure you're getting a SATA enclosure and the enclosure matches your Hard Drive (2.5” or 3.5”).

But is is possible to make it portable instead of requiring a power supply? Also, how do I know if the drive inside the enclosure is a 2.5 or a 3.5 without having to open it up?

No, Everything requires power. It is labeled as INTERNAL USE because it requires 12V. An external drive only requires 5V that is supplied via the USB connection. Some older drives will only function with a double USB connector because they require more current than USB 2 can supply.

ok thanks for your help, I kind of figured as much but was just wondering. Any recommendations for a good multiple drive holders, cause what I am really trying to do is cut down on the number of items I have plugged into power receptacles.
