My Samsung Syncmaster 204bw flickers on DVI, but not VGA. (Read Desc.)

Both of my Syncmaster 204bw’s flicker at random when on DVI, but not on VGA. None of the capacitors are visibly bulging and the video board seems ok. I really don’t have the money to buy new monitors right now, so I would really appreciate some help!

Hi @duccmann,

Have you proved that the problem is not a resolution compatibility issue between the monitors and the signal source?

Check if the monitors’ maximum resolution can handle the resolution set by the signal source video setting. If not, you may have to lower it slightly at the signal source to get rid of the flickering.

HDMI and DVI are digital signals and vga is an analogue signal and analogue signals operate at a lower resolution. Note: 204BW is the same as a 205BW as far as resolution is concerned in case you notice the link is for a 205BW.

If the signal source is DVI does it have a HDMI output option? If so try connecting the HDMI to another monitor e.g. a TV and check for any flickering.

Have the monitors worked OK before using the DVI setup?
