iPhone 3G won't restore error message 1015

itunes shows unit to be in recovery mode

i go to restore unit and says "extracting software

prepares to restore" ... says "waiting for phone"...says "preparing iphone for software restore".... "restoring iphone software".... loads software...verifys software....

restoring iphone firmware.... 3/4 of the way it gives error message "the iphone could not be restored.an unknown error occured (1015)

Please help?

is this a jailbroken phone? this is pretty standard error if it is. you need to download a custom firmware for the version you want to run.

As pollytintop says you need to restore with a custom firmware, or you could just try to "Exit Recovery Mode" with a program like TinyUmbrella. If the Exit Recovery works you are good. If not restore with a custom firmware made with Pwnage Tool for Mac or Sn0wbreeze for Windoz.
