Kenmore is a popular appliance brand commonly sold by Sears, but Sears does not manufacture any of the appliances themselves. Instead, they source that out and have other manufacturers make their appliances for them. Kenmore refrigerators are made by a variety of different manufacturers including LG, Electrolux, GE, and Whirlpool.

Hi @mrdave2066 ,

Is the compressor motor running?

If not it may be a faulty start relay or a faulty capacitor

If the compressor is running check that the evaporator fan is running. The evaporator fan is located in the freezer compartment behind a panel, inside at the back of the compartment. Access is through the door at the front.

The fan will stop if a door is open (either door) so check if you can hear it stop and start when a door is opened and then shut again. The fan should operate as long as the compressor is running. Do not confuse this fan with the condenser fan which is located near the compressor. It can run regardless of the doors being open or not.

Check if the evaporator unit is icy cold to the touch. If not it may be a compressor problem or a lack of refrigerant.

Is the compressor too hot to touch? If so it may be a lack of refrigerant. Check for any oily residues on the condenser coils or on or near the compressor. There is a special oil added to the refrigerant which is used to lubricate the compressor. If there is a leak then the refrigerant will escape to the air undetected but the oil may leave a trace.

The high and low pressures in the sealed system would need to be checked to determine if the compressor is pumping OK, the amount of refrigerant in the system is OK and also if there are any leaks etc. Depending on your location you may need a licensed repairer to check this due to the environmental regulations regarding the handling of refrigerant gases. Also they have the gear to do it as you have to cut into the sealed system to connect it. Then if there is a leak the system will have to be evacuated correctly of any remaining refrigerant, the leak located and repaired (if possible), and then the system needs to be evacuated again of any air in the system and the correct amount refrigerant pumped back in again and tested to ensure that all is OK.
