Where are the proximity sensors?

The iPad 2 can detect when the smart cover is closed. Before release, there was much speculation that it would include up to 3 IR proximity sensors. Are there any proximity sensors in the iPad 2? Is it possible to use the touch screen to detect when the cover is closed?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

The iPad doesn't have any, it's magnetic switch triggered by the smart cover, not a proximity sensor like on the iPhone.
