think you need to downgrade not necessarily jailbreak, unless that is what you want to do? This is probably apple recognising an oem battery, so you'd need to try a restore to your previous ios..hopefully saved somewhere??

pollytintop, do you remember the fix suggested by Majesty a while back that would prevent iTunes from communicating with Apple servers? I wonder if that would help, if it has to do with apple recognizing the OEM (or not) battery. Why do I receive error code 29 when I attempt a restore? Also, I believe that OS5, even so apparently compatible with the 3GS, is still having to many issues. I'd wait for another update :-) So downgrading is probably the best solution.

just recently used that on an ios 5 update that went horribly wrong..on a 3gs! OT3 good call. It just makes itunes resend info instead of using archived stuff (I think). This is on the apple support website/advanced troubleshooting section which I can never seem to find..

Error 29 is most often a Hardware Error. It is an Error that you hope is due to your new battery being incompatible with your iPhone. If it is not due to incompatible battery, it is most often means a significant Hardware Error.

I see a few error 29's and this is software and hardware

Restore it in DFU mode

To get to it, plug the phone into the computer and reset it by holding home and power together

Let go of power and keep holding the home button, it will say "iTunes has detected a iPhone in recovery mode" and click restore

If this does not work, it hates the new battery
