Display flickers when it detects movement

Hi guys, my mbp has some display issue from a while now. When there is some hasty movement in front the display, the screen flickers. The flicker isn’t constant always. The display goes blank for less than a second. This also happens when I move the laptop from one area to another while working on it.

it seems that the ambient light sensor is causing this. Because when I move in front of the screen it’s only the light sensor which is detecting that. While it’s not something which doesn’t let me work, when it happens sometimes it is just irritating that such a device does it.

Can any software tweak fix it or is it a hardware issue?

thanks

Oh Boy! Not good ;-{

First there is no means to over-ride the iSight camera assembly via software

The iSight (FaceTime) camera has the three sensors the ambient light and camera exposure sensor, the TrueTone sensor and the camera its self.

You can turn off the TrueTone and over-ride the displays brightness going to the Display setting thats it. See if any of the settings changes things.

Lastly, you can alter the exposure of the camera (from within the camera app)

But, I don’t think thats your issue here. More likely your backlight cable is damaged and just making and breaking contact as you bounce your system. The angle of the display can also play a part here.

Sadly, I suspect you really need a new display assembly. By chance did you sign up for AppleCare+ if you did you should be able to get this fixed for free via Apple! If not replacing the display assembly is not overly hard ad you could do it following this guide MacBook Pro 13" Touch Bar 2018 Screen Replacement

Hello thanks for your reply. The issue isn’t the backlight cable because the flickering happens even when the system is kept on a table but I move in front of it / or I move any object in front of its sensors!

What do you think now is the issue?

@nikunj93 - Even if your issue wasn't the cable the fix is the same replacement of the display assembly as the sensors are part of the assembly.

I would sit in front of the system and lightly bang the table top to see if that little vibration sets it off.

Hi Dan, by the display assembly you mean the entire screen? That should be a costly repair considering it’s a Retina display. Or the display assembly is just the connectors of the screen with the chip? Thank you
