Cooling fan CPU making weird noises.

CPU cooling fan is making weird noises, not really sure but the sounds are coming from that portion inside the pc. What can I do to make it operate as it were when I got the laptop?

Hi,

Is the fan continually running at high speed therefore noisier than usual or just noisy?

If continually running at high speed then perhaps the fan vent is clogged with dust etc, preventing the hot air from escaping quickly. If the vent is clogged, turn off the laptop and try to clear the vent using a vacuum cleaner and check if that resolves the problem.

If the vent is clear then maybe the thermal paste on the CPU has dried out and needs to be refreshed.

If just noisy perhaps the fan is faulty and maybe needs to be replaced.

In either case the laptop would need to be opened and inspected

Here’s the hardware maintenance manual for the laptop.

Go to p.45 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove the fan and heat sink assembly. This will allow you to check the fan and the thermal paste on the CPU.

If the thermal paste has dried and needs to be refreshed, here’s the Ifixit How to Apply Thermal Paste guide that shows how. (also mentioned in the fan removal/replacement procedure see p.48)

If the fan is faulty and needs to be replaced the part number is 5F10N82225 (see p.70 Item #6). Search online using the part number only to find suppliers of the part that suit you best.
