Transferring Old Hard Drive to New Computer

Hi All,

My MBP A1260's logic board recently failed, and being that the computer is starting to break more frequently and due to the high cost of replacing the logic board and possible loss of data, I am considering buying a mac mini to connect to my cineman display. My intention is to take out the hard drive from my MBP which is still functioning and to transfer the information to my mac mini using host migration. However I want to know if when I start up my mac mini all the data can possibly be restored so that my desktop looks the same as before as well as my settings and authorizations on applications. As I am not sure if buying the mac mini is worth it if when i boot my computer it is brand new many of the applications which I bought but am not sure of where the boxes are (Final Cut Studio, iWork, iLife) among other expensive applications will require me to find the serial number and reauthorize the computer.

Thanks,

J

You should be able to install your old hard drive without issues as far as I know? I've done so in a couple of different computers.

In the most recent case, I mirrored my previous computer's hard drive with Carbon Copy Cloner (http://www.bombich.com/) and loaded the image on my new computer's hard drive without issues.
