@doclouis and anybody else with issues like that, those are always really good questions. If you are talking about an iFixit replacement part, in this case something like this Nintendo Wii DVD Drive then the only people that can give you a definite answer, are the customer support people. There are three ways you can get in touch with them. Give it a try

you dont need a lens scanner it comes precalibrated (or should)
