2011 27inch iMac missing cpu. Can I use i3?

Model A1312 / Mid 2011 / 2.7 & 3.1 GHz Core i5 or 3.4 GHz Core i7 Processor, ID iMac12,2

Hi just been given an imac 27 inch it has no processor

I know these models shipped with i5 or i7 cpus. Just wondering if I could put an i3 into it. I just want to use as a second display.

If so which model i3.

Options

This series used either Intel Core i5 (2500S, 2400) or Core i7 (2600) Sandy Bridge.

I would stick with one of these.

I understand that but that's not the question.

I have an i3 here i3-2120. I'm not looking for anything amazing, just want to boot up to use target mode for second screen.

Im just wondering if this i3-2120 would work on this board.

@gersrt - Sorry no, the systems firmware was not setup to support it.
