My shifter broke do I have to replace the whole steering column

ok my shifter on my steering column in my 98 chevy regency broke its completely loose and dangling and seems like its completely un attached it moves freely up and down but doesn't engage in the gears do I need to replace my entire steering column also my turn signals won't engage when I turn them on left or right but both signal indicators on the dash light up solid and stay lit up when I apply the breaks what is wrong ive replaced fuses fuse relay and still nothing

Wait you press the brake pedal and your turn signal indicators light up? You need to check your wiring. That shouldn't do that. Also sounds like you need turn signal switch replaced. Might want to replace the cam with it. As to the shifter you should be able to look up your vehicle on, say, O'Reilly, autozone, or advance auto parts, and find a new steering column automatic shift mechanism. No need to replace the whole shaft. Just the parts that are broken.
