Left hand speaker muffled and staticy

Okay, my MacBook Air’s left-hand speaker is weird. It very very muffled and full static when compared to the right.

I thought it could be water damage and decided to replace it. I did that myself and it all went well and then went to check and no change on that speaker. It was the same as before not even a single change or improvement.

I ran Mac diagnostics, nothing came up. I also reset NVRAM/PRAM as someone had suggestion that might help. Still nothing. I’m at a total loss of what to do.

Also, I am 100% sure when I got it first it was working fine.

Answer this question I have this problem too

What do you hear when you plug in a good set of headphones in via the headphone jack? Use the balance control to bias which headphone is playing. Do you hear it with the headphones?

If you do then the MacBook Air 13" (Late 2018-Mid 2019) Audio Daughterboard or MacBook Air 13" (Late 2018-Early 2020) Audio Daughterboard Cable to the logic board is the issue. If its clean on both sides, then the logic board speaker cable connector has a problem.

Earphones have no problem with this. Only occurs when I use the in built speaker,

Look at the logic board for corrosion.

@danj I am pretty sure there was none since I did open up when replacing the speaking thinking that was the issue, and saw nothing much there in terms of it looking diffrent.

I think you'll need to bring your system into someone who has the skills to diagnose your issue. There is a limit on what I can offer for help.

@danj Thank you. Just wanted to exhaust all options before I did that in case it's something I can fix on my own. Really appreciate you taking you time to try and help me.

I had the same problem with 2 Macs, the solution was to clean the grille with a dry/clean toothbrush. The issue was that the micro-holes were blocked, which can be confirmed by passing light through them.

I could diagnose the problem by connecting the speaker without installing it, I leave it carefully hanging and it sound really loud.

I attach a photo of the blocked micro-holes.
