NC 700 right side no sound, Bose won’t repair

1.5 year ago I bought the bose NC 700. Today, suddenly the right side stopped working.

Updating the firmware, and switching to other devices didn’t change it. The noise cancelling also doesn’t work on the right side. I found similar problems online, there they said it was likely a hardware issue.

I contacted local Bose support, they told me the don’t do repairs on headphones. I need to buy new ones since it’s outside warranty… Probably designed for obsolescence, great stuff for these very expensive headphones.

Anyone has some advice how to try to repair?

Update (06/15/2021)

Thank you for the advice!

I found all the ‘security’ torx screws and removed them to uncover the main speakers, the battery and the circuit boards on both sides. If anyone also want’s to do this, remove ALL cloth not only the cushions. The cable from the main speaker to the PCB is indeed a finicky connection, but it wasn’t the problem.

I was able to test the problem by switching the speakers from left to right and vice versa. The original right speaker didn’t work in the left side. And the original left speaker did work in the right side. So it seems the right speaker is just broken. Unfortunately this part is ‘plastic' welded’ shut and I couldn’t continue my teardown. I searched online to find replacement parts (there were serial numbers that I used to search), unfortunately Bose does not support any repairs on headphones.

Only solution I had was to buy a second pair of broken headphones and use these for parts.

I hope someone will have some useful info from this.

try carefully opening it, and checking connections inside. Might have a broken wire inside that can be repaired.

From one teardown I’ve seen, the ear pads are replaceable. Try carefully prying it up and then there should be I think torque screws underneath. From that teardown, the cable looks pretty loose and secure, so it does seem like the twisting and turning of the yokes (along with adjusting it a 1000 times to put it in the hard case) would be the culprit. Look in there and see if the two wires going to the driver are connected, or if there’s a break in the cable. Also before doing this, check if the noise cancelling feature works on both sides or one side, it should be easy to tell since one side should be louder.

I believe AliExpress carries third party speakers parts for the Bose head phones haven't tested them myself . I'm looking for the right headphone and usb-c connector for the Bose NC700. If you still happen to have your broken pair It would be greatly appreciated or if you could point me to where you found the broken headphones for parts. Thanks

I have my broken pair, but the right side is broken... So likely this will not help you. I just bought a second pair via a local Craigslist equivalent (I live in Singapore)

i fixed it with the ifixit tool by removing the speakers and heating it on a radiator for 10 min and reassemble and boom it is fixed

Seems to be speaker replacements available on Aliexpress, maybe try those?
