Brightness sensor is causing ghost touch?

When exposed to a change in ambient brightness, the phone will receive seemingly random touch input rather than increasing the screen brightness. I’ve changed the front sensor assembly with the flood illuminator, and it’s still doing the same thing. Am I wrong about what flex cable the ambient light sensor is attached to? What’s going on?
