Minutes?

For the first 2 minutes the car runs on the rich side (burning extra fuel). At exactly 2 minutes, it switches to emissions mode and attempts to lean out the engine to proper air/fuel mixture.

If you can keep the engine running by touching the gas pedal, I would look for a vacuum leak or a sensor that is out of wack. Start with a scan tool that allows you to look at all the sensors. On the 4.7, watch the MAP sensor (measures manifold pressure), I had one that leaked occasionally to the outside and it would kill the engine at intersections or whenever the car was stopped at a light or stop sign etc. Also seemed to cause a rough idle were the engine would surge a bit when stopped at a light.

You could also have a vacuum leak. The rich mixture during startup covers the leak. When the mixture goes back to normal, the vacuum leak causes the motor to stumble and die (you might be able to save it by touching the gas pedal).
