Won't turn-on with battery alone, will turn-on with power cord

So bought the new M1 chip MacBook Pro thinking it would give me 20 hrs of battery run time.

But a week ago I spilled black coffee over it (maybe 30 ml) and so I let it dry for a day and next day I turned it but I faced a problem where it wont turn on just on battery itself but it would turn on when I plug in the power cord.

So I turned it on to check if everything is working and surprisingly everything was working display, touchpad, keyboard, touch bar, power button, and speakers.

So i thought that the battery needs to replaced but I saw that system was showing the battery percentage and was also charging but will shut down as soon as I unplug the power chord and boot up only with it.

What do I need to do to fix my system?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Well, you are in a bit of a pickle ;-{ Your system is so new no one but Apple has parts for it yet. Did you signup for AppleCare+ (added cost)?

Your lack of action may have cost you! Once your system gets wet the clock is ticking! You need to stop using it and follow these steps (of have someone with the skills to it.

  • Open the system up to gain access to the spillage
  • Disconnect the battery ASAP!
  • Mop up the spill and wipe down the parts with reagent grade isopropyl alcohol 85% or better as you need to remove the coffee solids as they will corrode the parts they are on.
  • Make sure you’ve looked through out the system for the spillage as it can travel

While the system appears OK with your limited testing its clear the power control logic within the main logic board has a problem. Some one with deep micro soldering skills as well as access to the needed parts might be able to save your logic board.

Sadly, Apple will likely not accept your system for repairs as they have a strict policy of not working on liquid damaged systems, as once the system gets wet it often ends up being a never ending exercise of a string of repairs. Your only other option is just replacing the logic board but that is not possible at this point in time and will be expensive!

At this point all we have is this writeup M1 MacBook Teardowns: Something Old, Something New. The only thing here which might help is this system is very similar to the older MacBook Pro 13" Two Thunderbolt Ports 2019 which might help.

@toxicharsh - At this point you'll need to open the system to check things out. Are you up to the task? Review the second link I posted to get an idea on what will be needed for tools and take a look at the teardowns as well.

Post a few clear pics here for us to see the damage Adding images to an existing question you find.

I have one more thing to ask .if I wait for 15 to 20 days ,is going to be ok or is it going to corrode even more

by

@toxicharsh - Sorry I can't answer that, I would be guessing!
