Why did my grill plates warp

After several years of use, the plates on my Cuisinart Griddler have warped. I always check to make sure they are installed correctly prior to use. The center of the places have warped away from the heating surface to the point that they are severely bowed and are no longer fit tightly in the clamps. Why did this happen? We often take the plates out of the grill while still hot so the grease does not burn on and they are easier to clean.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi,

Using even hot water to clean the plates while they are still hot can cause them to warp. I don’t know the griddle but if the plates were made from cast iron they would most probably crack if you did this and not warp like steel and aluminium plates will do.

If may have been better to add just a small amount of water and gently clean the plates while they’re still being warmed in the griddle to remove any food that is stuck to the plate, then turn it off and leave it too cool before cleaning it properly.

The user manual shows that the griddle should be left to cool for at least 30 minutes before cleaning it with the appropriate cleaning tool- see p.8, presumably to prevent warping of the plates

Comments:

The plates were allowed to cool over an hour prior to cleaning. They were just removed from the griddle so they would cool faster so the food remains would not burn on.

@Linda King

I would contact Cuisinart about the problem.(see p.10 in the manual)

Even if the product is no longer under warranty this shouldn't happen.

Cuisinart should be made aware of this if you are cleaning it as you say that you are doing, if only to make them aware that there may be a problem with their product or their quality control procedures. If they're not interested then at least you can then decide what to do about a replacement and whether or not to buy their product again. They mightn't listen to you but they do to their "bottom line".

Perhaps you should also politely express your disappointment that this has occurred as you thought that you had bought a "quality" product.
