Is it possible to Switch out the logic board to a newer one?

I want to keep the laptop and extend its life, It was a gift from my dad. Im replacing the batteries next week because they have bloated so I was curious if this would work. If it does, i’ll order it and install it.

Your only option might be a 2017 board as the 2016 share the same basic design as the 2017. I don’t know if anyone has tried.

  • 2016 logic board: 820-00281 - Intel Core i7 (2.8 GHz 6700HQ, 2.7 GHz 6820HQ, 2.9 GHz 6920HQ) ("Skylake")
  • 2017 logic board: 820-00928 - Intel Core i7 (2.8 GHz 7700HQ, 2.9 GHz 7820HQ, 3.1 GHz 7920HQ) ("Kaby Lake")

To be honest I don’t see a swap out as being worth it unless you are looking at the RAM or drive config as being the issue.
