black screen but reacts to touch

Hey, I needed a new microphone on my Sony Xperia E5 because it was broken, so I took the mobile apart, changed it and then put it together. When I pusched the power button it turned on but the screen was still black. The phone reacts to touch, charching works, sounds work. It is actually not totally black, in a dark room I can see whether it’s off or on. And also there is a small stripe of white light in the top of the screen. Does anybody have any idea what the problem could be?

Thanks.

Hi @janast ,

Try shining a torch at an angle close to the display when the phone is on and check that you can see images OK.

If so then there is a backlight problem.

Check that the display flex cable is securely connected to the systemboard and also that there are no rips in the flex cable.

Did you disconnect the battery from the systemboard before starting the repair?

If not then you may have accidentally blown the fuse that feeds the backlight power to the screen.

I can’t find a schematic for the phone but in some other phones the smd fuse is mounted near to the flex cable connector. Worth a look anyway.
