Camera taking black pictures

I dropped my D3100 camera off our counter top. Now when I take a picture it is black. LCD screen is displaying fine. When I download the pictures they are black as well. Some say to see if shutter is moving but it will not let me do that when lenses is off. Previous pictures show up on the camera fine it is just new pictures taking come out black. If I use screen view it shows up black with a slight amt of res showing.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Hi

There are 3 probable causes:

  1. the mirror got knocked out of alignment. you can confirm this by enabling live view. if live view works as expected then the mirror and its mechanism are fine.
  2. the mirror got wedged against its rubber stop (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKCtczsz...)
  3. the shutter curtains got damaged.

Cheers!
