Trackpad and Keyboard Issues
I see similar topics have been discussed regarding this issue but wanted to throw mine in the ring for discussion.
Issue: Trackpad scrolling no longer works at all, but about every other “click” on the device will register. Keyboard presses will sometimes register, but quite often will have to press keys repeatedly.
Troubleshooting steps I have followed to no avail:
- Safe Boot
- Cleared NVRAM
- SMC Reset
- Diagnostic Mode - no issues detected
- Removed the back cover to inspect the batteries and there is no swelling. Also, there are no signs of liquid intrusion.
- Reseated the Trackpad ribbon cable on the logic board
- Reseated the Keyboard ribbon cable on the logic board
Quesitons:
- Is it likely that the ribbon cable from the Trackpad to the logic board needs replacement? (This is the model that the ribbon cable runs under the battery)
- Are there any other troubleshooting steps to follow that may pinpoint the exact issue?
Thoughts:
- Seems odd that a dedicated cable for the Trackpad would introduce issues to the keyboard as well, but I did boot the computer without the Trackpad cable connected and the keyboard would not function at all. Seems like these two devices work in tandem based on this outcome.
Thanks for reading this long post and I appreciate any input or advice.
Is this a good question?
