Will replacing the Touch Bar disable the Touch ID?

Hello! I recently purchased a Touch Bar replacement and brought it to a technician to have it replaced. He told me he wasn’t sure that he could do it without disabling the Touch ID since both the Touch ID and the Touch Bar are synchronized. Is he correct?

My Touch Bar looks like this right now.

If you review the MacBook Pro 13" Touch Bar Teardown Step 11 you can see the TouchID button is fully independent to the Touch Bar display assembly as seen in Step 15. The 2018 model is setup in the same way.

To add to this I’ve replaced three Touch Bar’s on both 13” & 15” systems without having any issues with the TouchID.

Even still one needs to be careful! As the TouchID cable can be damaged quite easily. I always remove it before I work on replacing the Touch Bar. If you damage the TouchID that’s the killer! As you would then need to replace the logic board with a fresh mated button to it.

You could just replace the entire uppercase assembly which has the Touch Bar already mounted! While expensive it also gets you a new keyboard & battery! 13” MacBook Pro Top Case/Bat/TP US - Silver as an example!

Thank you very much! I will tell the technician that and show him the the teardown guide.

The replacement I got is called A1706 with cable. “ Tested 13" A1706 A1989 Touch bar 821-00681-04 for MacBook Pro”

Should it work with my 2018 MacBook? Thanks

Thanks for you answer! I got a Touch Bar with cable for A1706 model. The seller says it is compatible with A1989 too. Is he correct? Thanks again

@thespaniard - They are separate part numbers, I've always used the correct one per the system. I wouldn't try mixing.
