Laptop Stuck on No Bootable Device

Today I remembered I had an old laptop with some important files on it and so I dug it up and tried to turn it on. I think I should mention that before I got stuck on the “No Bootable Device” screen, that the laptop was stuck in an automatic repair loop that I tried to fix. After that it was stuck on the “No Bootable Device” screen. I’ve tried switching to legacy but I still get the same problem. I’ve also tried booting into recovery mode but that isn’t working. Please help me!

Now this is important. If you can see the 32gb eMMC drive in the BIOS it is probably physically O.K. just the boot files may have gotten corrupted and can be fixed. Hopefully that is the case as the eMMC drive is soldered to the motherboard.

How did you try to access the recovery environment? Did you try this to access the recovery environment?

If you get there you want Automatic Repair > Advanced options > Troubleshoot > Advanced options> Startup Repair

Sometimes you need to run this a number of times as it sometime only fixes part of the problem on the first or second runs.

Turn your computer on and off three times.  While booting, make sure you turn off the computer when you see the Windows logo. After the third time, Windows 10 will boot into diagnostics mode. Click Advanced options when the recovery screen appears.

Having said that, if shutting off three times doesn’t work, try booting up with an external bootable USB flash drive with the Windows install files on it and this will take you into the recovery screen. This way you may be able to access your data on the 32gb eMMC drive.

If I haven’t explained some of this clearly enough just ask. Happy to help.

Hi. I have the same problem, but there's never any point where Windows attempts to boot. I never see the Windows logo. The eMMC drive is listed in the BIOS, but not on the boot manager. What scared me a bit is that it's not listed in the Windows Setup tool either. I can't reinstall Windows, because it thinks there's no drive. What's even more interesting is that if I try searching for a disk driver with the Windows Setup tool, it lets me browse the computer files, AND THERES A WINDOWS PARTITION IN THERE

Update: There's no Windows files in the eMMC drive. I got confused with the my own partition in the setup USB. The eMMC drive is empty. I switched to legacy mode and changed the USB to MBR.

Doing this, Window Setup recognized the eMMC drive, and the boot manager did too, but booting from it gives me the "no bootable device" error again.

Windows Setup gave me this error "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."

As you may already know, there's no such setting in the BIOS. I'm stuck.

Hi @Desolate Intention

Let's try this step by step.

So did the drive format correctly?
