iPhone ear speaker blown or distorted

My iPhone XS earpiece speaker (when phone is held to ear) sounds like a blown speaker and is very hard to hear people talk. I’ve found the part on iFixIt (iPhone XS Earpiece Speaker and Sensor Assembly Item Code: IF406-023-1), but outside source reviews report that you completely lose the FaceID functionality. Has there been any issues with this?

If you replace the front flex assembly without transferring the original sensors face ID will not work. There are shops that provide this service as it requires microsoldering.

You will have to replace the ear piece in the screen by opening the phone and replacing the ear piece or replacing the whole screen.

I’ve replaced many components in an iPhone before. I was just curious if anyone has replaced the speaker on an iPhone XS and if it required replacing more than just the speaker (all in one piece???) and if so, are there additional compromises such as faceID no longer works properly?
