Can't reset SMC, no light on magsafe

Hi,

I recently refubrished a macbook pro unibody a1278 from mid 2012 running on the lastest update of Mac OS Catalina.

Upon reapplying thermal paste I broke the sleep sensor cable, after turning on the laptop the magsafe light wouldn’t turn on.

The computer works however, but the battery won’t charge it just says it’s connected and that the battery is not charging and on coconut battery is says charging with 0 watts.

Today I changed the DC-in power board, and after turning on the computer, it still didn’t charge and there’s still no light on the magsafe charger.

I tried resetting the SMC, but the computer just starts, what I mean by that is I would press the correct buttons on the keyboard+the power button, and the computer just starts as if I just pressed the power button. That makes me think there might be something wrong with the SMC. Am I correct ? if so, is there al alternative way to reset the SMC or check the SMC’s health ? do I have to change the chip itself or the whole logic board ?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

You need to fix the sleep sensor/battery checker issue. Here’s the needed part: MacBook Pro 15" Battery Indicator Board, Apple P/N 922-9033

Then see where things are then.

Update (11/04/2020)

Well, things are going to get tricky!

You’ll need to pull the logic board and inspect the SMC logic. Do you have access to the schematics and board views as well as a DVM so you can trace out the logic?

Hi thanks for the quick answer, I already changed the part with a new one from ebay and the computer now sleeps normally when I close the lid but the charging problem is still there.

I'm going to buy a multimeter and try that, perhaps there's some corrosion or a short somewhere I can repair, I have no experience in microsoldering though but I'll look up tutorials. I really hope I don't have to resolder.
