“Three Beeps” Memory slot problem.

I have upgraded my CPU from i5 to i7 and my hard disk 1 TB HDD to 2 TB SSD, all the job was done by myself and I was extremely careful not to brake anything, however after I finished the upgrade and try to start my iMac the screen didn’t turn on and I hear a steady "3 beeps" every few seconds, NOTING that when I worked on the motherboard I didn’t even touch or replace the memories sticks at all because I already had  the max RAM for my iMac module .

My iMac details:-

iMac 27-inch 5k (Late 2014)

Intel Core i7-4790K Quad-core (4 Core) 4 GHz Processor - Socket H3 LGA-1150 Pack CM8064601710501(after the upgrade)

Storage Samsung 860 EVO 2 TB SSD (after the upgrade)

Memory 4 sticks Sk-Hynix 1600 MHz DDR3 each 8GB total is 32 GB (now with the issue I have only 16 GB that mean 2 sticks out of 4 is working.

Graphics AMD Radeon R9 M290X 2 GB

OS Catalina Version 10.15.7

And after all of the attempts I have made to solve this issue I found that the first 2 top RAM slots aren’t working while all the memory sticks are working fine, so I am using now only 2 memory sticks total 16 GB inserted in the 2 bottom slots and the iMac is running fine.

Here is some of my attempts after figuring out the slot issue:-

-       I try to posh the memory sticks hard to the top slot (Didn’t work)

-       I try to start the iMac with the 2 memory sticks placed on the 2 bottom slots then I shut down the iMac and replaced them on the top slots (didn’t worked)

-       I try to use 2 sticks in different slot like 1lot 1 & 3 or 2 & 4 (didn’t worked)

-       I try to used only one memory stick in the first top slot (didn’t worked)

-       I try to used only one memory stick in the 2nd top slot (didn’t worked)

Can someone help please to fix this issue with the first 2 slots from top.

We You clearly got the correct CPU for the system. That only leaves pin damage within the socket. You’ll need to go back in and inspect the socket and your CPU for damage. Make sure the thermal paste stayed on the lid as well.

Swapping out the CPU’s in the newer iMac’s is not easy!

:( Opening the iMac again especially the cpu is a night mare, i was extremely carful and i checked every things.. all of the hardware were in excellent condition,

is there any alternative option like a software capable to check each hardware?

Lets us say if some of the socket are damaged, is it possible for the iMac to run normally? ,, because currently i am doing every thing with my iMac the only thing is missing is the other 16 GB of memory.

All it takes is one pin to be damaged, It's what the pin is wired to, in this case one of the RAM address lines appear to be effected.

You could run a good 3rd party RAM tester app or the built-in diagnostics. Restart the system and press the D key.

Yes you are right Dan, there was a one pending socket and I fixed it, but unfortunately after I reinstall all the iMac part again it never start, there is only one green light on the logic board i really don't know what's the problem now

I already try to unplug the power cable and wait for few second and plug it again and still get the same result, although i made sure that the wire between the power button and power supply isn't damage.

Sadly I think its time for a new CPU and/or logic board.
