Repair guides and disassembly information for laptops manufactured by ASUS.

F510 Screen won't turn on and the back of the display gets very hot.

This morning my laptop display won’t turn on, though the laptop seems to boot normally. The screen is just black. I have tried numerous keyboard resets. As I was trying to boot it, I noticed that the back of the display was very hot. It seems like my display is broken. I will be taking it to a friends to test on an external monitor soon. Any advice?

Update (10/07/2020)

So an external monitor works just fine. I am guessing it is a hardware problem. I am currently in a very hot and very moist place in South Asia and hardware problems seem to be a normal occurrence here. I have already had to replace the laptop fan once (it is working fine). I am glad it works on the external monitor and happy that my whole laptop isn’t kaput, but getting the screen replaced here would be difficult, and I am worried about the display getting so hot in the back near the hinge. Still open to any insight or advice.

Hi @jammon39,

You may have to replace the screen or at least find out exactly where the heat is coming from

Here’s a video that shows how to replace the display in an Asus F510U which may help so that you can check more closely where the heat is coming from. (take note of the 1st comment under the video about the bezel removal).

If the display needs replacing usually the Asus part number can be found printed somewhere on the back of the display panel itself. If you search online using the part number only there should be results for suppliers of the part.
